This adorable enamel pin is inspired by the critically endangered Axolotl, a unique species of salamander native to the freshwater habitats of Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco in the Valley of Mexico. Though related to tiger salamanders, axolotls stand out for their extraordinary ability to remain aquatic and gilled throughout adulthood, an uncommon trait among amphibians.
Sadly, wild axolotls are near extinction, with their population critically threatened as of 2020.
